The three ways to pay a lawyer are:
 
1. The lawyer works, bills you, and you pay the bill.
 
2. You pay a flat fee for service.
 
3. You deposit money into your lawyer's Client Trust Account (IOLTA).
 
Here's how #3 works:
 
1. You put money in the lawyer's IOLTA account, a special checking account that is supervised by the Washington State Bar Association, so your money is safe.

2. The lawyer works for you.
 
3. The lawyer sends you a statement of time and expenses spent on your case and if you approve the statement, the lawyer deducts money from the IOLTA account.
 
I like to work on a flat fee basis; sometimes I use the IOLTA method.
 
 
Unfortunately, you cannot make a deposit into an IOLTA account with a credit card or PayPal, but you can pay your bill or a pay a flat fee using Visa, MasterCard, or other methods of payment by using PayPal. To learn how PayPal works and to sign up, go to:
